Jake Heiberger's Guillain Barre Fund

For those of you who know our brother, Jake Heiberger, you know how compassionate he is. He is a hardworking father of four and engaged to an amazing woman, Kristen. Jake’s humor, fun personality, and laugh are contagious and his love for his friends and family is unending.

At the age of 37 and the oldest of six kids, Jake has always been caring, outgoing, and the one we count on to help us with anything from moving furniture to giving advice. Helping others is a quality that Jake brings to his family. Having worked in the healthcare field for almost ten years, the diagnoses of Guillian-Barre Syndrome (GBS) was a shock to Jake and his family.

Jake was diagnosed with GBS on Friday, September 30, 2016. A rare and incurable autoimmune condition in which the immune system chronically attacks the body's own nervous system, causing damage and inflammation to the spinal cord resulting in paralysis. The onset of his illness began the previous week when he experienced tingling, pain and weakness in his legs and feet. It progressively got worse every day, leading to his arms and hands.

Those affected by GBS often face a long road of recovery as they work to regain their life again, hoping for the ability to reverse all, or part, of the damage the disease caused to the body. Jake must relearn to walk and function as closely to his competitive nature again. The recovery process is unknown but can take up to, or over, a three year period…with struggles the rest of a lifetime.

Jake and Kristen recently bought a new house for their family of six with twins  two years of age, an eleven year old, and an eight year old. Without the ability to work, hospital bills and rehab bills will be overflowing. Please, help us ease this family's burden during this difficult time. We are confident that through faith, love, and perseverance, Jake will be home with his family again very soon, but need the help of other compassionate souls to assist in this time of crisis.

Please donate to our fund, to help Jake and his family during this time of desirable need. Anything you could provide is so much appreciated.

Sincerely,

The Heiberger Family
