Jake Stinson's Happy Gentle Heart Surgery
Donation protected
A major medical crisis for our #HappyGentleHeart, Jake Stinson, has led a group of friends and loved ones to come together in support. We are helping pave a path to financial recovery while he heals and focuses on a physical recovery. If you know Jake and his story, you know he is a truly generous and gifted soul that brings light and friendship to anyone he encounters. If you don’t know Jake or his saga, please read on.
Jake was admitted to OKC’s Baptist Hospital on Jan. 10, 2020 after a strep-based bacterial infection left him fighting for his life in ICU. Shortly after admission, he went into respiratory failure that resulted in resuscitation, intubation, and medically-induced sedation to give his body a chance to fight the infection, which had ravaged his heart, kidneys, and lungs.
After 10 days in ICU and various states of sedation, medical providers performed open heart surgery to replace the two damaged valves. Replacing the valves was an essential piece that would allow him to live, as well as give his lungs and kidneys what they need to make (an expected) full recovery.
Complicating Jake’s story is that he recently changed jobs and was in the probationary period of waiting for his medical coverage to begin. It is unknown how long he will be in the hospital, what the cost of this crisis will be, a prognosis for recovery, and how this might derail the new life he was building.
Jake makes no secret that he has overcome alcoholism, lost 100 pounds, worked tirelessly to live a healthy lifestyle, and started a degree to become a substance abuse counselor. Close friends know that even without the degree, he has already helped others deal with the crippling effects of addiction, making it clear that he has found his true path in life.
We hope this snippet of Jake’s story leads you to join us in raising funds to show Jake how much we profoundly believe that the world still cares and need his tenacious strength and genuinely happy, gentle heart.
Besides this effort, there are additional fundraising events for Jake, such as:
- a January 25th rock show at the Blue Note in OKC featuring several local bands
- a digital release of tracks from one of his bands, Bitch Wizard, where all proceeds go toward Jake’s recovery fund. Check it out here: https://bitchwizard.bandcamp.com/
Please reach out if you have other ideas for fundraising options or events.
The funds raised here will go directly to Jake's mother, Lisa Henderson, who is handling the management and logistics of his care.
Thank you for all the prayers, good vibes, well wishes and anything you can contribute to help Jake get over this hurdle and on to the next amazing achievement!
