Jake Stepp's Road to Recovery Fund

Donation protected
On Saturday morning, September 8, 2018, Jake Stepp suffered a massive stroke when his carotid artery split. He was subsequently airlifted to Norfolk General Hospital where the Neurological team made several unsuccessful attempts to remove the clot and open the artery.

Jake spent the next seven days sedated in the Neurological ICU where he was closely monitored on a ventilator while friends, family and a team of Nurses and Doctors waited as the stroke progressed and the swelling in his brain subsided.

Once he was stable, Jake was tapered off of sedation and the ventilator was removed. To everyones surprise he was slowly able to speak, his memory was intact and he had maintained his playful sense of humor.

However, the stroke has left Jake with Hemiparesis. A condition caused from the stroke on the right side of the brain that has left him with paralysis on the entire left side of his body. He’s currently unable to move his left arm, hand or leg and cannot stand alone or walk. While he does have a promising sense of sensation in his left side, no one has given much hope that he’ll regain mobility on the left side. This is not a prognosis Jake or his family are willing to accept.

The first 90 days of stroke recovery are a make or break time. Jake needs the best of the best, and they are willing to travel wherever they need to go and do whatever they need to do to in order to align him with the best rehabilitative care possible. Jake doesn’t want to go somewhere to learn how to live with one side of his body, he wants to go somewhere with the hope he’ll some day walk again.

Jake is an amazing friend and son, a loving husband to his wife Karrie and an incredible father to their three beautiful children Ryan, Dylan and Camryn who need their father as happy, healthy and full of life as this world will allow. Getting Jake access to the best rehabilitation program is crucial and will most likely mean relocating temporarily out of state. If you would like to help in any way, we will be using these funds to aid in his rehabilitative care in the hope of getting him back out coaching on the baseball field, playing catch with his boys and riding waves in the ocean he loves.

We thank you in advance for your support - it means the world to those who know and love Jake. God bless you all.
