Jake & Sammy Johnston’s Spinal Surgery Nightmare
Donation protected
Update 28th June 2023 - Jake has now been in hospital for 23 days. He has been approved for rehabilitation which will most likely be a minimum of 14-21 days from when he is moved, there is no date set for this move yet but still a very long road ahead!
On behalf of Sammy and Jake, I have started this go fund me to help this beautiful family… In October 2017, my husband's chair at work snapped at the pivot throwing him backward off his chair, he was rushed to hospital. Jakes life changed forever that day. It’s such a long story to tell, it has been 6 years of hell, physical, emotional and mental pain…but to summarise it here goes…. Jake has had 9 spinal surgeries since 2017. Countless hours of rehab, physio, hydro and is no better off than he was when he first suffered the injury. Jake is currently in the ICU at Calvary North Adelaide Hospital having undergone his 9th surgery which wasn’t a success. He woke from surgery in extreme agony, something was seriously wrong. He was rushed back in to emergency surgery. Jake now has spinal cord damage caused by a huge hematoma on the spine, loss of sensation to his left arm, right leg and horrendous pain through his abdomen due to compression on the spinal cord and a signal change in his spinal cord. He is on day 6 (Saturday 11th) in ICU and is on such a HUGE cocktail of pain relief and still in excruciating pain. Jake has a long road ahead before he can even think about leaving hospital. We have 2 beautiful girls who are without their daddy yet again, 7month old Emma and 2 year old Amelia. I am trying to be strong for the girls but the truth is, running back and forth to the hospital, trying to keep the girls in somewhat of a normal schedule, the financial stress of petrol, bills piling up due to me not being able to work during this time and no income, medical expenses….I’m drowning. Jake and Sammy would never normally ask for help, in fact quite the opposite, they are always the first to help others. So I am setting up this go fund me to offer some support to their beautiful family during this very difficult time. To take even a tiny bit or pressure off. Even a small donation will go a very long way. Thank you for taking time to read and support.
