Jake Orlick Support & Care

On February 14, Jake Orlick was involved in a very serious motorcycle accident in Ventura, California. He suffered traumatic brain and spinal injuries and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center.

For four weeks, Jake remained in a medically induced coma, on a ventilator, with doctors closely monitoring the swelling of his brain. Because Jake could not be moved or stimulated, the extent of his brain and spinal injuries was not known.

His mother Nica, his father Albert, his brother Stevie and his uncle Amos, as well as many close friends, rushed to be with Jake in Ventura. We launched this site knowing that there is a very long road ahead for Jake.

As one of Jake’s trauma surgeons told the family, “this is a marathon.” Jake and his loved ones are only starting this marathon, and no one knows what lies ahead.

In early March, Jake - though still sedated - began responding to commands, such as raising his arms or giving a thumb's up. he underwent a four-hour surgery to stabilize his spine and he also had a tracheotomy surgery.

About a week after that surgery, doctors began lowering Jake's sedation. He began slowly speaking. He recognizes his friends and family. He was weaned off the ventilator and is breathing on his own. Though slow, his progress has been steady.

On March 19, Jake was moved out of the ICU to an adjacent "step-down" unit. He is sitting upright in a special chair for a few hours a day. The extent of his severe spinal injury is still unclear. Doctors have told Jake that he is lucky to be alive. We are so grateful for the care he has received and the progress he continues to make.

Funds raised by the Jake Orlick Support & Care GoFundMe will go directly to Jake’s immediate family to help alleviate the huge medical expenses that will be the result of Jake’s catastrophic accident. The funds will help ease some of the enormous burden that the family faces on the road ahead.
