UPDATE 10/18/2023
Hello again.
Two months ago, I reached out asking for help to get me through the period following my surgery for a broken jaw. Friends, family, and even strangers showed up to make the campaign a success. Thanks to you, I was able to pay all of my bills through August and September and returned to work on 9/13/2023.
Unfortunately, I suffered a major setback in the form of an infection called osteomyelitis. I had another surgery on 10/16/2023 and again will be out of work for several weeks. The road to recovery from this can be long and unpredictable and I have been forced to cancel all of my DJ and karaoke events into November ($4290). I also had to cancel two pro bono events for charity, which breaks my heart.
In addition to lost revenue, I have medical bills piling up that insurance won't cover - about $4,000 so far from the first surgery with more likely to come from this week. I am hoping to return by mid-November, but for now I need help. Again.
Thank you so much for reading this, and for all of your help so far. If you are unable to contribute, please consider sharing with your community. I could really use the help.
8/19/2023:
Hello, I’m Jake D.
On August 18, 2023 I was enjoying a drink in a karaoke bar on vacation in Hawaii. There is video of me near bar-close talking, singing, and behaving normally (link below). No slurred speech, stumbling, or obvious signs of drunkenness.
Somehow, I blacked out for several hours and awoke in severe pain with a broken jaw. I believe someone drugged my drink, causing me to fall and hit my head at my hotel.
I had emergency surgery to re-set and wire my jaw shut on August 19, 2023. My jaw will be wired for at least four weeks, making my work as a DJ and Realtor difficult to impossible.
Being that I’m self-employed, there are few options for me to fall back on financially. It is hard for me to ask for help, but for the first time in my life I feel I don’t have a choice.
My next 30 days’ worth of DJ gigs are valued at $5945. If I could recoup just that amount of money, it would be a great relief and help me to pay hospital bills and costs associated with a not-so-fun extended stay in Hawaii.
Thank you for reading, and for all the well wishes so far. I hope to be back soon, laughing harder and singing karaoke more enthusiastically than ever before. For now, I need time to heal. Anything you can give will be sincerely appreciated.
This VIDEO shows me singing shortly before bar close. I do not seem to be exhibiting signs of drunkenness associated with alcoholic blackout.
