This account is to help Jake's family with the expenses and medical costs that we will be facing while he is in the hospital in Des Moines. Jake was admitted to Mercy Downtown every early Thursday morning with liver and kidney failure. At the time he was very disoriented and very unresponsive. He did not know where he was or who we were. It was a very terrifying time for his family and friends. The level of ammonia in his body was way above normal so that was their first focus- get the ammonia level back to normal before they could move on to the kidneys. Thursday morning he started to show some improvement in this area and it only continued to get better as the day went on. Since then, the progress of the kidneys has been little to none, but some of the liver function has slightly improved. The next goal is to get the kidneys functioning again without having to do dialysis. We are unsure of how long he will be at Mercy yet, it all depends upon the kidneys.  Emily, her father, and the kids have been staying at the hospital with Jake to help with taking care of him. Emily has had to return back to work but will be traveling down during the week to visit him. She will most likely be missing more days of work in the weeks to come. The family would appreciate any help they can get to help cover these costs of Emily not working, traveling back and forth from Carroll to Des Moines, food, and the overall medical expenses they will be faced with.  Right now what Jake and the family need are prayers for strength and healing. She will be home mostly throughout the week so could use help with meals and help with running kids to and from activities. Visitors are always welcome at the hospital, but the room is very small so only a few at a time would be best.
