Hi, this is Cynthia. As many of you know my son Jacob suffered a brain injury in 2015 after going into heart failure. He acquired damage to his cerebellum which affects his speech, balance, motor skills, and coordination; as a result, he uses a wheelchair and adaptive equipment full time. He has recently received an opportunity to obtain groundbreaking new brain injury treatment in Canada. He will be able to purchase a Pons Device (Portable Neuromodulator Stimulator), which through his tongue will stimulate the damaged/ dead portions of his brain in hopes of allowing him to regain many of his lost abilities. Many individuals have gone from being wheelchair users full time to independently walking with this treatment. While results are not guaranteed we are extremely excited at the opportunity he has and welcome whatever improvement this new treatment can provide.
We are fundraising to pay for the following:
- Purchase & Ownership of Pons Device
- Training
- Therapy Sessions twice daily for 3 weeks
- Travel to Canada
- Accommodations in Canada while receiving treatment
The cost of the Pons Device will double in the new year and as a result, will become very unaffordable for Jake and his family. If the device is purchased in December they can lock in the lower rate and guarantee a spot at the clinic for whenever they need!
