Jake & Elwood need YOU!

Donation protected

Hi! We're Jake and Elwood. We are rescued brothers who were adopted by our mom, Amber, nine years ago.
We are so lucky that we get to live with her and our extended family in the Earthroots office! We love it here and hate to leave when we're not well. We're both sick and need a lot of care which has been really hard on our mom.

This is what we looked like when we first got to Earthroots - pretty cute, eh?! We were so young and full of energy back then.

Jake:  In December I wasn't feeling well - I was really thirsty and hungry all the time. My mom noticed right away and had two strange people come to see me. I was scared when they walked in with their big bags but it turns out they were super nice - I was happy I didn't have to leave my home. They told my mom I have something called diabetes. I have to get needles twice a day now - I really don't like it but it's not so bad knowing that I get lots of love before and after. I think my mom had to borrow a lot of money for me :-( I heard her say all of the tests cost $750 and she needs $200 a month for my insulin, needles and check-ups.

Elwood:  Last weekend, one of our friends who takes care of us when our mom isn't here, gave me my brother's insulin by mistake! We look so much alike. I felt OK at first but my mom came rushing in - she looked so worried. She put me in a carrier (which I hate!) and took me to a scary place with lots of other cats, dogs and weird smells. I was put in a cage and kept there for a whole day while they gave me sugary water through a tube. Even though my mom visited me, I didn't want to eat or drink - I just wanted to go home. When she was paying for everything I heard her say she had to use her overdraft to cover the $1,000 bill :-(

I have been home for a week now but I am still not hungry or thirsty. The people who took care of my brother keep coming to our home every day to give me fluids and make me eat out of a syringe. It's yucky and I always feel safer when I can hide after. I think it's costing my mom a lot of money. I have to get pills and things rubbed into my ear twice a day. They told her I have something called pancreatitis - I really hope it will go away soon so I can feel like my old self again and mom can get some rest. I was already sick but being so stressed and upset at the clinic triggered an attack - I am in a lot of pain but the medicine is helping.

We keep our mom company day and night when she is working so hard to protect the forests and the animals. She loves us so much and would do anything to help make us better but she doesn't have any money. Can you help her care for us with a small (or big!) donation? It would really make a difference and we know how grateful she would be.  Love, Jake & Elwood
