My name is Jaimie Cook. I'm 15 years old and the current British Under 17 (Cadet) Fencing Champion. I've represented Scotland at Cadet, Junior and Senior Level and competed in the British Cadet Squad since the age of 13.
I'm totally delighted to be competing for Great Britain at the European and World Cadet Championships this year.
Unfortunately the price of success is pretty high as these events, as with all of my other fencing costs, are self-funded. And when I say self-funded, I mean the bank of mum and dad! The cost for this season alone for travel, accommodation, training camps, food and equipment will be almost £15,000. That's quite a bill to foot by anyone's standards.
I'm seeking support for these two events which are being held from 21-26th February in Porec, Croatia for the European Championships and Salt Lake City, America from 3rd-12th April for the World Championships.
The European Championships will cost around £1,000
The World Championships, nearer £2,000
Not only do we have to pay all our own costs, but also a contribution to referee and team management costs and, because I'm only 15, a parent has to accompany me - which is a good thing, since my dad's my coach but his costs aren't even factored in the figures above.
We have already paid for some of the European Championship costs but there will shortly be another bill for this and the World Championships from British Fencing and flights to source and pay for.
Any support you can give would be very much appreciated.
