Jaime strong

Jaime was experiencing consistent headaches in early 2020. On March 5th, Jaime went for a CT and was told to report to the ER for a MRI immediately. The MRI later revealed a mass on his thalamus and involving his brain stem which would be diagnosed as a stage IV glioblastoma. Due to the positioning of the tumor and its rapid growth, it is not able to be removed surgically. The goal is to reduce the speed of growth to increase Jaime's lifespan while maintaining quality of life.

Jaime and Lauren spent over a week in the hospital for Jaime to undergo two brain surgeries. The first surgery was to relieve fluid pressure from his brain and the next to biopsy the tumor to ensure the diagnosis was correct along with getting vital mutation information that could aid in treatment.  Once the surgeries were complete, Jaime was able to go home and consider the next steps. He is being treated by oncologists at IU Health and soon began a chemotherapy pill paired with radiation 5x/week.

After Jaime's first round of chemo and radiation, he and Lauren decided to marry with immediate family at the beautiful Indianapolis canal with more loved ones attending via Zoom. It was a day filled with love and joy! Lauren and Jaime were able to take a few days in a secluded cabin after their wedding and they enjoyed every moment.

Jaime has since completed 2 more rounds of chemotherapy and the oncologist has added a new weapon to reduce the growth of the tumor: an Optune device. The Optune device is worn on Jaime's head 18 hours/day and he carries a small backpack with the device. After the most recent imaging, the tumor has shown signs of growth and Jaime is experiencing some challenges with his vision, but has felt ok otherwise.

In addition to the chemo and radiation, Lauren and Jaime are on a journey to seek experimental treatment to target his specific tumor mutations with the help of his oncologist.

As you all know, cancer sucks, but kind of sucks more to have cancer in the midst of a pandemic. To keep Jaime safe, he and Lauren have been mostly home for the past several months. Thankfully, some live sports are returning to TV and, if you know Jaime, you know that is HUGE. We are praising God for his ability to watch the Cubs play again! Now we just have to get the Bears and the Hoosiers kicking off in the fall!

Your support and prayers are so appreciated! We will continue to provide updates as they come. All donations will be used to offset medical expense as well as living as Jaime is no longer able to work at this time. Thank you all!
