On September 4th Jamie Paddock was admitted to the Cardiothoracic ICU at University of Washington Hospital. They attempted to do a heart catheterization and her blood pressure tanked. Unfortunately her heart was to weak to tolerate it. So she had to be put on ECMO which is a form of life support. ECMO is a live-saving medical device that provides temporary support to the heart and lungs when they are unable to function properly. On September 11 they tried to wean her off ECMO but her heart was too weak. So they decided to put in a Left Ventricular assist Device (LVAD). This mechanical pump implanted in the chest with assist the weakened left ventricle in pumping blood throughout the body. The purpose is to help improve heart function in patients with advanced heart failure. Hopefully it will help her so if she does need to get a heart transplant in the future. After she has this surgery she will need to stay in seattle for the next 3 months and then come up to Anchorage for 3 months. She will need someone to always be there in helping her with what she needs. We as a family are trying to raise money to help her and family that needs to be near her in this time of need.
