Jails to Jobs: Electrician Training
When people leave incarceration, they face an uphill battle. Many returning citizens lack education and marketable job skills and face the stigma of having a criminal record, which make it extremely difficult to find employment. One prominent study found that less than half of released prisoners secure a job upon their return to the community.
Opportunities, Alternatives, and Resources (OAR) provides a range of pre-release and post incarceration services in order to assist individuals returning from jail to successfully reintegrate back into their communities and become productive members of society. This creates safer communities for everyone.
OAR, in partnership with the Johnny Apple Seed Association, is thrilled to have the opportunity for 10 of its clients to participate in an electrical apprenticeship program to become electricians! But we need your help. OAR does not currently have the resources to cover the costs for our clients to participate in this program. We are hoping to raise $6,000 so that 10 of our clients, all formerly incarcerated individuals, may participate. Each participant will receive hands on training, a set of basic hand tools, and will be offered employment at the end of the training. This is an amazing opportunity to provide OAR clients with job skills that are in demand and provide them with employment that will pay a real living wage!
Any support you could provide toward reaching this goal would be greatly appreciated. Your support can be life changing for the men and women who will participate in this program and their loved ones!
