On December 23rd, 2016, Shoobies released our first ever music on streaming services, an EP titled Dear June, recorded in our basement. On that exact date 2 years later, a handsome St. Bernard boy was born in Ohio. 8 weeks later, on February 23rd, 2019, that St. Bernard was delivered to us the morning before we began recording our 2 EP split record, titled CULT - ACT1 & ACT2. To preface our fated convergence, Casey had been telling the other boys in the band that it was always his dream to own a St. Bernard dog named Jagger. As he does, one night Casey found himself irresponsibly window shopping online, and happened to come across a beautiful St. Bernard boy for sale... that was already named Jagger. Regardless of spiritual beliefs, the boys are positive that adopting Jagger was fated to happen, as he changed their lives immediately upon coming into the family. The boys were living in a beach house out in Seaside Park, writing new music and literature, and Jagger was the perfect companion, existing as a wellspring of love, support, and inspiration. In a little over a year, we've since released said record, and have moved into a quaint residential neighborhood in Brick, NJ. In that short amount of time, Jagger has metamorphosed, growing to resemble more of a bear than a dog.
Everything was perfect, Jagger was the perfect dog, and existed as sort of the mascot for the band. Most people (and dogs) see Jagger as a threat because of his size, but he is genuinely the sweetest gentle giant this world has ever seen. All he wants to do is play, cuddle, and maybe give you a few kisses. This dog is our best friend, and the best companion we could've ever asked for.

Then, on October 12th, Jagger started acting funny. The only thing Jagger enjoys more than cuddling, is food... and on this day, he refused to eat his food. The St. Bernard breed is notoriously stubborn, so at first it wasn't terribly alarming. Then, as the days went on, he still refused to eat. The only thing he did manage to put down was a bit of a rotisserie chicken. Finally, on October 18th, his body gave out on him. He showed no signs of weakness throughout the day, only lethargy. The boys took him for a long walk around the neighborhood, which is his favorite thing to do, and as soon as they got home, Jagger passed out. He couldn't move, had to crawl to his water bowl, and his arms couldn't bear the weigh of his body. Immediately, the boys rushed him to the hospital, only to be told that "he is perfectly fine, and healthy... only a little underweight." We took their word for it, as they are doctors... but that didn't explain his inability to stand up. Casey had to carry Jagger from the back yard to the car, because he couldn't walk on his own. Nothing about that screamed "perfectly fine, and healthy."

Jagger slept in Casey's bed all night, and everything seemed to be okay. By the morning, when it was time for Jagger's walk, he couldn't make it up the stairs. He tried his hardest, struggling with every step, until his body went limp and he fell down the stairs. We knew something serious was wrong, and took him back to the hospital for bloodwork. It has since been over 24 hours that Jagger has been held in the hospital, undergoing constant tests and bloodwork, racking up a Jagger sized medical bill. Our worst fears had manifested themselves, in the form of Jagger testing positive for a lifelong degenerative disease called Addison's Disease. At only 1 year old, still a puppy by the standards of most doctors, Jagger had been suffering from an Addisonian crisis. Our little man is now forced to undergo monthly bloodwork, get shots every 3-4 weeks, and take steroids daily... for the rest of his life. Not to mention, he still must undergo a stomach surgery on Friday.

This hellish nightmare of a week has come at the worst time... a time where our band has just finished recording our 14 track debut full length album, and our well has run dry. We knew what we were getting into by choosing a career in music: a lifetime of poverty. That's why we've never done anything like this before, we take pride in being a self-sustaining business. However, now we're super broke, and the pandemic has totally forestalled our livelihood by prohibiting touring/shows. Thus, we figured now was the time if ever to reach out! We know just how much this dog means to everyone, and want to thank anyone who has ever supported us, as you've enabled us to live out our wildest dreams. Now, sadly our baby boy is in a lot of pain, and we're struggling to be able to take care of him financially. Most dogs with Addison's Disease unfortunately end up in shelters because their owners can't afford to take care of their medical bills. Jagger will now require daily medical attention, which is a responsibility we're more than ready to accept for our handsome little man!

If by chance you wanted to help take care of his hospital bills, including his medication and surgeries, we are so gracious for your generosity! Normally every year we dedicate October to raising money for Breast Cancer, but our lives have sort of been flipped on our heads. That being said, any money raised above our target will be donated!! We don't expect any single person to donate to help Jagger, as we understand the impertinence of asking for money during a pandemic; this fundraiser is solely for those who are in a position financially where they feel they are willing and able to donate, in an effort to help out our handsome little buddy :) Again, thank you so much for even considering helping out Jagger, and for showing us love and affection over the years. We wish for nothing more than to continue traveling, making music, and making memories, but only if it means Jagger boy is still by our side.
