Support for Jafaar's Family

On Sunday, 10-year-old Jafaar Shbeb was struck and killed by an SUV at the intersection of 162nd and Burnside. He leaves behind a single mother and two little sisters. Jafaar and his family were refugees of the Iraq War and arrived in Portland in 2014. His mother is a hotel housekeeper and works hard to support her family. This loss has dealt a devastating blow to a family that has already suffered and lost so much, and to the closeknit community of Iraqi refugees that lives in East Portland.
