I guess at first it seemed a bit silly to do this, but then I realised that it’s okay to admit that it’s time to ask for help.
For those of you that don’t know, I have been sick for around 8 months now. I have been suffering from chronic body pain, severe gut health issues, persistent bacterial infections, chronic fatigue/lethargy, and the incredible mental battle that has come with it.
I have undergone every test under the sun to figure out what is wrong with me. I have had countless blood tests, iron infusions, ultra sounds, colonoscopy, endoscopy, CT scan, MRI, I have been on multiple rounds of antibiotics, supplement and diet cycles, herbal medications, EVERYTHING you can think of - I’ve had it or done it.
It wasn’t until a recent CT scan that doctors noticed my womb was swollen and there was fluid in my pelvis.
They suggested that I may have deep seated endometriosis that has attached itself to my bowel, which would cause all the symptoms I have.
1 in 10 women have endometriosis and on average it takes them 7-9 years to be diagnosed. I decided I wasn’t going to be one of those women, and I was going to sort it out while I can. The longer I leave it, the worse it gets and my ability to have children in the future will be affected as well as potential permanent and chronic gut health and lifestyle issues. (Please research endo if you don’t know what it is, it’s pretty crazy stuff!)
I was just seen by a Gynocologist/Obstetrician who has said that she believes my sickness to highly likely be endometriosis. However, the only way to diagnose endometriosis and see how/where it has spread, is with a laparoscopy.
A laparoscopy is a surgical procedure, which involves multiple incisions through the belly button and both sides of your abdomen in order to locate and eradicate spreading endometrium tissue.
So here’s where it gets tricky. The surgery is going to cost 6 thousand dollars. Seems pretty ridiculous to be so expensive when so many women have this disease!
I’m normally not one to ask for help, I have always liked to be the helper, but this time it is a little out of my hands.
My incredible mother has devoted so much of her hard-earned money to help me get to the bottom of this, and the money for the surgery just isn’t money that either of us have. This whole process and the last few months has been really tough on my little family - and our wallets are pretty empty. Our medical debt so far is pretty high.
If you can, if you’re able, and as uncomfortable as I am about asking, I would be incredibly grateful for any amount of help. I’d love to be able to find out if this is the cause of my illness, and be able to get back to having a great quality of life.
If you aren’t able to help financially (which I understand completely because I am beyond poor), please just share this around to as many people as you can.
Thank you in advance, from the bottom of my heart, for any help you can give.
Big love,
Jaemi.
