Help PACE save a life one heartbeat at a time

Hello, my name is Jaelynn Bowie. I am 17 years old and in the 12th grade at Cornerstone Academy in Gainesville, Florida. Each year seniors are tasked with completing a Capstone charitable outreach project. The school’s mission is to “reorient the projects toward local charitable programs and reemphasize scholarly effort while also fulfilling the biblical mandate to love your neighbor as yourself”. After researching a few non-profits in Alachua County, the organization I chose to work with is PACE Center for Girls Alachua. Since the inception of senior Capstone at Cornerstone no one has chosen PACE before so I figured it would be a rewarding experience to educate my school about the mission and services of other non-profits in the community. After several meetings with PACE staff, we decided to focus on safety. PACE staff expressed their desire to have an AED machine in each of their buildings, while they currently only have one located in their front building. Therefore, my charitable duty is to fundraise to purchase two AED machines which is a portable medical device that analyzes the heart rhythm of a person in sudden cardiac arrest. I feel it is important to have the AED machines easily accessible in the event of an emergency. The time that it would take for staff to transfer the AED machine from the main building to the next may be crucial to the safety and wellbeing of their girls and staff which could be a life-or-death situation. Raising money for two AED machines ensures all PACE buildings have the necessary emergency equipment to keep their girls and staff safe.
