Jaelle Tieche Senior Year Service Trip (2025)

Donation protected

Hi.

I’m Jaelle. I’m a senior at The King’s Academy.

A senior. I know. Can you believe it?

As you know, each year, every student in my high school goes on a service trip.

Last year, I went to the Philippines. Many of you actually supported me in that last year. And that was an unforgettable experience that I’m still talking about. And the main reason it affected me so much is because I got a chance to really work with kids. I love kids. I love working with kids. And as I filled out my college applications this past Fall, I was thinking about careers that deal with working with and helping kids.

So when I was choosing a mission trip for this year, I knew I wanted to work with kids.

And one service trip in particular stood out.

It’s an organization called INCA LINK.

It’s been around almost 20 years, and its audacious goal is to try to serve the 300+ million children in Latin America.

Right now, it works in five different countries in Latin America.

And this year, I’ll be going to serve with INCA LINK in Peru.

Trujillo, Peru, to be exact.

Trujillo is the second most populous city in Peru, behind the capital of LIMA, with more than a million people. It’s about the same size as San Jose, actually.

Trujillo is a coastal city, located where the Moche River meets the Pacific Ocean. It’s often called the center of culture for Peru.

But it’s also a place with real poverty. And that really affects children.

  • More than one-third of the population of Trujillo live in poverty.
  • Children are particularly vulnerable in Peru. 27 percent of school-age children are not enrolled in school.
  • And the street children in Trujillo are often victims of abuse and violence

INCA LINK is doing some really powerful holistic work with kids.

  • They have a sports camp.
  • They run a church.
  • They run a center right near the garbage dump to serve the poorest of the poor.
  • And they have a daycare and education center for the kids who don’t go to school called MANA

And that’s where I’ll be working.

For many in poverty, education is seen as a waste of time because if you work, you can get money, so why go to school. But education can help break the cycle of poverty. So Inca Link came in to help. They run a facility five days a week called MANA which serve children.

This facility, MANA, does a number of things:
  • It provides free lunches to kids who often don’t have food, let alone nutritious food
  • It’s a support system for young kids academically, helping them reach their potential by offering homework help, tutoring and school support.
  • And perhaps most importantly, for kids especially kids on the street, it creates a safe space for kids to be known and feel loved - and to know that God hasn’t forgotten them, that God loves them and that God can use them to make a difference in their world.

This is also a cultural immersion experience, so I’m glad I took a few years of Spanish.

Here's where I need your help. And I’m a senior, so I guess this is the very last time I’ll be asking you.

This trip costs $2800.

I hope you can consider supporting me financially so I I can be able to serve these children in the Philippines. Here's how to do it. You can donate easily and safely by clicking the link below.

Anything helps.

Thank you for visiting my GoFundMe page and thank you helping me to be able the serve the children of Peru.
