Our Livermore community was devastated by a horrific auto accident on Friday August 27th when the lives of six Livermore teens were forever changed. As many know, one child lost his life and five others were injured, some with life threatening injuries. Jadrien is one of those boys, and he is one who's story you may not have heard. Jadrien is lucky to have sustained only minor physical injuries, but the trauma of the experience, the loss of a friend with several other friends in critical condition has changed his life in ways that no child should ever experience. One of the first responders on the scene reached out to the Garcia family and shared that he has seen a lot of trauma during his career, but what he witnessed that night will stay with him forever. He shared Jadrien's bravery in trying to help his friends and sorrow over what Jadrien and the other boys are now facing. In the words of this first responder, "Please hug your son extra hard tonight...I know I will be hugging mine." So while Jadrien is "OK" he is also not "OK" and we would like to support his recovery by ensuring he receives whatever counseling, mental health treatment and support he may need now or in the future. Trauma hits different people at different times and in different ways, and we want to ensure that Jadrien has the resources for whatever he may need to get back to being the bright, fun loving kid we know and love. A little about Jadrien; what a great kid! He is kind, caring and empathetic towards others. An avid outdoorsman, Jadrien can often be found hiking, camping or fishing with his family, playing football and hanging out with his friends. And those friends are very important to him, which makes this experience all the more tragic for him. The Garcia family is very private, and with their permission, we are sharing Jadrien's story out of support and solidarity and to offer financial support for the journey that he faces going forward.
