Cycling has been a constant in my stage 4 lung cancer journey. It began as a passion and became a lifeline after I lost my driving licence due to brain metastases, helping me to stay independent, active and connected to the people and places I love. My bike, Poppy, has been with me through it all, from everyday journeys to adventures in the Outer Hebrides, Norway and France.
That's why I'm taking on Tour de 4 2026 and fundraising for ALK Positive Lung Cancer UK, an incredible charity that has been an important source of support, knowledge and community since my diagnosis. Created by Sir Chris Hoy following his own stage 4 cancer diagnosis, the event brings together people living with stage 4 cancer, alongside friends, family and supporters, to ride together to raise vital funds.
While I cycle regularly, this is a TOUGH challenge for me. I've always been terrified of climbs and often go out of my way to avoid them, which is exactly why I chose the red (very hilly!) route.
Although my family and friends have taken on fundraising challenges over the years, this is the first physical challenge I've taken on myself. I hope that by stepping outside my comfort zone, I can help challenge perceptions of what stage 4 cancer looks like and show that strength, resilience and determination can be found even in the most difficult circumstances.
If you're able to donate or share my fundraiser, I'd be incredibly grateful. Every contribution will help provide vital support for people affected by ALK-positive lung cancer.
