Jades journey to 1200km

Hi, my name is Jade and I am running 100km a month for 12 months to complete 1200km by the end of 2025.

this may seem easy to some or not challenging but I have not ran for 4 years so having to build it all up again as well as working full time hours- having 2 young kids and trying to fit in any running time between my shift work and my husbands shift work.

A few days before Christmas, my dad started to feel severe pain in his back and a strange sensation/numbness in his legs so was taken to A&E. he was admitted that night and remained in hospital for just over 3 weeks meaning he spent all of Christmas and New year in a hospital bed.

whilst in hospital he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and a tumour was found on his spine which had caused a spinal cord compression. The compression has caused paralysis and he has not walked since he went into hospital on 19.12.24. He had surgery on his spine on Christmas Eve in which he had metal rods inserted to help with his spine.

He was discharged home after the new year and remains in a wheelchair and has since learned how to transfer himself using a board to get himself in and out of bed/ to a toilet/ car/ sofa.

due to paralysis- he is now unable to work so I am hoping to raise funds to help them with future payments for any medical equipment he may need as well as trying to help with a few bills whilst trying to sort heads out and adjust to this new life.

for someone who has never really taken a sick day from work- someone who barely sits down or stays still- had a physical job in which he worked 60+ hours weekly / spent free time either kayaking/ walking or assisting in house projects for friends and family, is now currently unable to do any of those things and is training himself every day to try and walk again as well as starting a treatment plan for the cancer.

we are not a family to beg for money- we all believe we work hard for our money and we don’t like taking money from others so I decided that instead of just setting up a go fund me to ask for Money- I will do my part to continue working hard to hopefully raise some money and again- i decide to take this route instead of raising money for a charity as selfishly - my parents won’t see that money and it will not help them at this time.
