Hello. I'm Olivia and last year I had a lot of pets. I'm a vet tech/ assistant at a veterinary wellness clinic. This year has been rough for our family. We started out last year with 5 cats and 3 dogs, 1 dog I inherited when my mom passed away. Usually with my discount and pets being pretty healthy we could care for all their needs with little to no problem.
Last November, Bowser, our 12 yr old cat, started having GI issues. It turned out to be GI lymphoma. We got about 2 more months with him after an ER visit and meds. Then, our cat Panda who was 16 with hyperthyroidism and HCM (heart disease) got worse, and we let her go. Soon after, Chance, our about 12 yr old dog who we adopted when he was 7 got a chest mass and dementia. Then Cactus, Bowser's best friend, also got GI lymphoma. Earlier this month our cat Stella, 15, slowed down and she also had a chest mass. We had to let all of these babies go because we didn't want them to suffer. I never imagined I would lose all of them so quickly. I thought we had years more.
This past week our 6 yr old cat, Freya, who'd had asthma for a year, suddenly showed worse symptoms and when we treated her asthma, heart failure emerged. We had to let her go today. We couldn't treat her asthma with her heart failure, prognosis was poor that we could even get her better temporarily.
Not only that, but our 4 month old kitten, Jade, became lethargic, and nonresponsive this morning. He'd had a few drooling episodes prior, but came out if it. He's been hospitalized today and is finally standing. He most likely has a liver shunt, which is deadly if left untreated. So we're left with a horrible decision. Either euthanize a sweet, otherwise happy healthy kitten, or pay money that we don't have to do a CT to diagnose the shunt, and then surgery.
I've called who I can, and applied for help from charities. I don't know what else to do. I want him to have a chance, but we only have so many credit cards, and after that I don't know how to pay it off.
Please, if you can, donate 5 or 10 dollars. If everyone contributes a little bit, it would help us out so much. I really appreciate everyone who has commented on my status or sent messages supporting us. I don't know if he can even get better, but I have to try.
Tl,dr: Many of our pets have died recently, mainly due to old age. Had very expensive ER visit for 2 cats, one had to be put down. Kitten needs expensive medical care to live, possible CT and surgery. I need help.
