As many of you know, cancer has caused havoc for Jade and her family, with the countless surgeries, treatments, setbacks, and its refusal to go away. The seven (7) years of battling cancer have taken a toll on Jade and her family physically, mentally, emotionally, and most of all, financially. So many have asked, "How can we help?" and "What can we do?" Our foundation, to bring many individuals together to provide financial help to Jade and her family, has set up a support campaign fund to maximize the impact of everyone's wish to support Jade and her family.
On May 25, 2023, the Arlington Athletics Hall of Honor Foundation recognized Jade Laswell as our 2023 Everyday Hero. An Everyday Hero is a person who does extraordinary things every day with a passion for making a substantial difference, dedicating their lives to leaving their patch of green grass better than they found it. Jade exemplifies that in all that she has done and does. Jade has maintained an incredible spirit, selflessness, positivity, courage, resilience, and poise throughout all these years of battling cancer.
Here is Jade's battle against cancer in her words on the Jade's Fight Club Facebook page...
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall of 2016. I had a bilateral mastectomy followed by chemo. January 2018, the cancer came back in the same spot. It was found on the morning of a reconstruction surgery. Round two. It has the same breast cancer makeup as the original. Removed the lump and started radiation.
I was cancer-free for a while when the cancer hopped over to my liver and grew. There, it became metastatic stage 4 breast cancer. I had a hepatectomy, and they removed half my liver. In 2021, the cancer came back. We spent a year and a half traveling to Houston to MD Anderson for clinical trials while still teaching. In January 2023, I transferred care back to UT Southwestern in Dallas - where I originally had all my treatments... I created Jade’s Fight Club as a grassroots global movement to help others not only survive cancer but thrive when dealing with cancer. Jade's Fight Club is to inspire and give hope to the fighters, family members, and friends who are fighting it together.
Latest update: Jade is now back in the hospital.
If you are moved to support Jade, Dustin, and their family, please donate.
