During Spring Break in Austin, TX my sons were visiting their father. Their father was clearing land on someones ranch and decided to bring the boys with him. While building the bonfire, a log that was thrown into fire had been covered in gasoline that triggered a explosion of the bonfire which spread to a gas can nearby. Jacoby was standing near the fire and he was burned from his lower thighs to his ankles. His father is a paramedic and used his training to quickly get our son to emergency care approximately an hour away from where they were. Jacoby was admitted into Dell Children's Hospital in Austin and I flew from JFK to Austin as soon as his father told me what was going on. One week after the incident the plan of action was to get Jacoby the best wound treatment and rehabilitation in New York so this energetic 11 year old boy can get his life back.
At this point Jacoby has 2nd and 3rd degree burns on 18% of his body which has left him in unimaginable pain, unable to walk with months of rehabilitation in front of him. Before the accident Jacoby lived with his mother, brother and a younger sister in Remsenburg, NY. He is a 6th grade student at Remsenburg-Speonk Elementary and was looking forward to his 6th grade graduation and class trip to Boston. This GoFundMe Campaign will help pay for medical supplies, rehabilitation and travel from Texas back to New York. Any amount donated will make a difference for our family and aid in Jacoby's recovery from this life changing traumatic event.
I have updated this story from it's original posting because when I began the GoFundMe account I was deceived by my ex-husband on the events of the story. Jacoby was readmitted into the hospital this afternoon due to complications of the bandages used at the previous hospital. He is now in the Burn Unit at Stony Brook undergoing several procedures to improve his healing and overall condition. The staff and doctors have been incredible and have my son's best interest to aid in Jacoby's recovery. Any donation big or small will help our family tremendously. I have been raising my children as a single parent for years without help except from the friends that have now become my new family here on Long Island. Please leave your comments and positive thoughts along with your prayers so Jacoby can see how many people truly care about him!
