Jacob's Summer Figure Skating Training Camp Fund

My name is Jacob Sanchez, and I am twelve years old and I am working hard on my dream to compete in the 2026 Olympics - Men’s Figure Skating.

I began to skate when I was five years old. I was the most advanced in my “Learn to Skate” class so when those lessons were finished, I started to take private lessons. I was five years old when I first competed. The experience was amazing! Even though I fell right at the beginning of my time on the ice, I still got up and I completed my routine.

My most recent skating accomplishments have been placing 2nd at the 2020 Eastern Sectional Final and 1st place at the 2020 North Atlantic Regional Challenge in Novice Men division. This past skating season I placed 2nd in the 2019 Regional and Eastern Figure Skating Sectional Championships and 3rd at the 2019 U.S. Figure Skating National Championships.

My long-term goals in this sport are to make it to the 2026 Olympics and be able to compete internationally. I see myself being a coach and an international competitor for team U.S.A.

The thing that inspires me to skate is the ability to express myself through choreography and movement. I can connect with the music and I feel I have become one with the ice. I enjoy studying and watching elite skaters from all over the world.  They are my inspiration and what I aspire to become. This inspires me to work hard to match their skills.

I train on the ice 6 days a week in addition to Off Ice conditioning and Choreography.  Additionally, I go to school full time and maintain good grades. My parents have sacrificed greatly to support me in pursuing my dreams. In addition to spending countless hours supporting me while I’m on the ice, they also have invested incredible amounts of money to help me succeed in such an expensive sport.

This summer, I have been offered the opportunity to participate in an overseas training camp with the members of the Russian National Figure Skating team.  This is an awesome opportunity for me to go and train with elite skaters, but the cost of a visa, travel, lodging and training can make it difficult for my parents.  My parents are both working full time, Mom as a public-school teacher and My Dad as a NYC Police Officer. Both of them put all they can into my skating, while also taking care of my 2 brothers. I realize that to continue on this path of my Dream to compete in the Olympics I will need some support from others.  Lessons, Ice Time, Equipment, Competition Fees, Training Camps and Travel all add up and I hope that you can support me in my Dream and, in the future, I will be able to make my family, coaches, and country proud when I win Gold!

 Sincerely,
