Jacobi Thomas’ Medical Bills and Dental Surgeries

Hi, my name is Nayima(Nitra) and I’m creating this fundraiser on behalf of my son, Jacobi, who is the victim of a senseless, brutal attack and assault that has shaken the foundation of life as he’s known it.

Around 8pm on January 4, 2023, Jacobi went to grab dinner and was involved in an auto accident with an uninsured motorist who t-boned him in the parking lot. The adult male attempted to intimidate Jacobi by using tactics to sway him from contacting authorities. When those tactics didn’t work, he became infuriated and attacked Jacobi, fled the scene and left him in critical condition

Jacobi sustained severe and extensive injuries resulting in him being transported via EMS to the hospital. It was confirmed that Jacobi suffered a broken nose(surgery may be required), a lacerated lip that required multiple sutures, and critical, yet manageable dental injuries that will require multiple reconstructive surgeries.

Although Jacobi has auto, medical and dental insurance, his expenses are exorbitant and the financial burden of his recovery is too much to bear alone. His medical expenses have already exceeded $50k and he hasn’t even begun his recovery journey. I created this account to raise money to cover Jacobi’s medical and dental treatment, medications, ongoing therapy and travel expenses for out of town specialist appointments.

If you know Jacobi, you know he is one of the kindest, most generous, loving people ever created. This senseless crime has shocked his and our entire world, and turned it upside down. You know that basketball is LIFE, and I’m hopeful his light will soon return and he’ll be back on the court in no time!

Jacobi is a college freshman at TSU in Houston, Texas, studying Psychology with hopes of providing affordable mental health services to underserved and overlooked BIPOC youth and communities. While he should be preparing to return to school to kickoff the Spring semester and reconnect with friends, he’s instead preparing for a series of surgeries and trying to understand how and why this even happened. He’s remaining optimistic and he’s eager to return asap.

Jacobi has been released from the hospital and is home resting and recovering. He’s in good spirits and forging ahead.
