Jacob's Story

Donation protected
I would like to spread CPR education awareness and help my sister and brother in-law through prayers and donations to get them through this difficult time in their lives.

I would like to share with you all the story of this BRAVE LITTLE WARRIOR named Jacob Mateo Perez. My sister and brother in-law were blessed back in April of 2018 with finding out they were expecting and adding another child to their little family of three. We were all excited not only for them, but for us as well. This would mean we would have another child to spoil and love unconditionally. Cristian was excited to know that he would become the big brother who would help him grow and show him the ropes.

In June 2018, they went in for a check up and to their surprise found out that not only was there one little egg, but two!!! As the joy filled the room it suddenly came to a stop as they were told that one had not made it. After extensive test and blood work my sister was diagnosed with T.T.T.S (Twin Twin Transfusion Syndrome-  occurs in twins that share a single placenta (monochorionic), which means they must be identical and monozygotic (single egg). Identical twins can have separate placentas (dichorionic), which on occasion implant very close to each other in the uterus and seem to fuse. TTTS cannot happen with fraternal twins that each have their own placenta or identical twin placentas that fuse together. Chorionicity (how many placentas) can and should be determined by ultrasound as early as possible in multiple pregnancy).

After my sister’s diagnosis she continued to live a normal life as much as she could. As baby Jacob started growing things began to get a little more complicated for my sister so she was given orders by her doctor to stop working and go on bed rest for the rest of the pregnancy. This is where baby Jacob and his mom started the fight together to get to the finish line.

On October 15, 2018 God blessed them with Jacob Mateo Perez. He weighed in at 2lbs 15oz and was born at 7 months. Jacob spent the first three months of his life in the NICU at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. He was diagnosed with some heart and preemie complications.  Everyday his parents were there with him. On January 25th 2019 Jacob FINALLY came home.

As he grew day by day we got to see what an amazing beautiful strong boy he had become. Making their family complete and full of joy. His spirit always made their day.

On Friday April 5th 2019, our families life completely changed. Jacob had a seizure which caused him to go into cardiac arrest. As dad began CPR mom called 911. He was rushed to the hospital where they continued CPR. Jacob had gone without a pulse for more than 15 minutes and because of that it caused  severe brain damage and Jacob was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. This has caused our family A LOT of pain and suffering, but we are also happy that God still let us keep our Jacob. As this event completely turned our world upside down, it is a new lifestyle that we have to learn to live with. Never do you think this can happen to you, but one is never prepared for anything like this. If there is one thing that mom and dad would like people to know is how important CPR is. If Jacob's father had not performed CPR right away Jacob would not be here with us today. Please if you have kids, nieces, nephews, and or grandchild PLEASE LEARN CPR. Our baby boy is here with us because of CPR and God’s will. We know God has a plan for Jacob and our family.

First and foremost I am asking for PRAYER! Through prayer everything is possible. We are in good spirits that our little fighter will fight on and overcome every obstacle that is put in his way. Because Jacob needs a lot of parental attention mom has stopped working and dad is working part time to get through this difficult time in their lives. Not only do they have to deal with Jacob but there is also Cristian who is having a very difficult time trying to process what is going on. Obviously there are financial expenses that need to be payed, food, gas, rent, and most of Jacob's medical bills. This is only the beginning of the financial hardship they will have to endure. My sister has already had to take out of her retirement to pay off some medical expenses. I sit back and watch how BRAVE my sister and brother in-law have been through all this, I humble myself and ask for your help. If you find it in your heart to make a donation it would be greatly appreciated. I do want to add that my sister had the strength to not only go through what she has gone through, but she also had the determination to finish her Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Unfortunately she will not be able to walk and enjoy her moment because of what has transpired. We will be doing updates on his progress but we know that god has a plan for Jacob and we will be right beside him through it all. He has fought this far and he will continue to fight! Thank you for taking the time in reading his story and please feel free to share. Thank you and may god bless you all.
