Jacob MODOT worker hit by tire, highway 13 Bolivar

Hello, my best friend's husband Jacob Detherage was severely injured in a freak accident. He was working along a highway, and a passing vehicle's tire flew off and hit him. He was knocked unconscious and sustained numerous injuries.

He broke his fibula, femur, multiple ribs, collar bone, shoulder, c7 vertebrae, jaw in 2 places, sinuses, and a concussion. All of his injuries are on the right side of his body, which is his dominant side, making things very difficult for him.

He has already undergone 2 surgeries to repair his femur and his jaw. His femur was repaired by drilling a permanent rod through his hip down his leg to his knee. His jaw was repaired by placing metal plates and being wired shut. He will have to have his mouth wired shut for 3 weeks to allow his jaw to heal. In the meantime, he can only have a strictly liquid diet, those liquid meals are expensive.

Both surgeries Jacob had a bad reaction to anesthesia causing him to not want to wake up. On his second surgery, upon waking up his body went into fight or flight mode, and he was unable to breath. He had to be moved to ICU so they could get him breathing.

He is slowly recovering, but this is going to be a long road for him and his family. He will more than likely have to go to a rehabilitation facility before he can come home. He is a loving husband and father to 3 little boys (6,5,1). He is the sole breadwinner for their household, and without his income, his family is going to be struggling. They already live paycheck to paycheck, and now they have lost their income on top of their already extremely thin budget.

We are trying to raise funds for them to not have to worry about bills at all on this long road to recovery. They also need a vehicle, they lost their only reliable vehicle in a car wreck on Mother's Day this year, when a truck pulled out in front of them. Their entire family was involved in that wreck, and they were just finally physically healing from it. Financially they have still not recovered from that wreck.

They currently live in a camper that is falling apart. Winters in a camper are extremely hard, especially when it's not in the best shape to begin with. We would love to be able to get their home winter ready for him and his family.
