Jacob Vance's Accident Fund

Those who know Jacob know his quick wit, humor, passion for skateboarding, social justice, sustainable seafood/environmental protection, his empathic ways, and his willingness to help others.  It is at this time though that Jacob is in a dire position where he needs your help.

On May 24th, 2020 Jacob was in a near-fatal motorcycle accident on the Carquinez Bridge, as he was making his way North from Oakland to go camping. His traumatic injuries included multiple pelvis fractures, right femur and tibia fractures, and most significantly - third degree burns over 50% of his body.

He was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA where he has spent 12 weeks in the Burn Intensive Care Unit undergoing seven major surgeries for his orthopedic injuries and the grafting of his burned skin. In addition to the skin grafting and 12 weeks of lying flat on his back, his recovery will face additional challenges due to the bad burns he sustained to his hands, resulting in the amputation of all of the fingers on his right hand as well as extensive damage to his left hand. It’s a huge transition for Jacob. He loved working with his hands, creating everything from woodworking crafts made from recycled skateboards, to building Bella Vista, a DIY neighborhood community skate park in East Oakland. He is very happy to be alive, but the road to reclaiming use of his hands and adapting to his new condition is a very long and challenging one.

Jacob deeply appreciates all of the support from his loved ones and the outstanding medical care he has received. He is dedicated and driven, but it will be some time before he can consider returning to gainful employment. Though the difficult work of recovery belongs to Jacob, he will need financial support to be able to undergo the requisite extensive rehabilitation therapy, and to make sure he’s able to maintain a healthy and stable life during his long process ahead. We are seeking donations to assist him in the recovery from his injuries, allowing him to reclaim his life and all of its potential.

Jacob Vance! You are strong, we believe in you and so many people are rooting for you and wishing the best for you.
