Many of you know Jacob (Jake) Spellis and how inspirational he is from the demons and obstacles he has overcome in his life thus far. Unfortunately another hurdle is in his way, but that will not stop him from finishing his race. He is a huge inspiration to a lot of us and supporting him and his family in a time of need will be greatly appreciated, every little bit helps!
Below is his story that he shared on Facebook:
Chondrosarcoma, grade 2-3 of the nasal septum.
One of the most rarest bone cancers.
28, married with two children and I have a cancer that has no Explanation and very little research due to his rarity.
When the doctor called with this one I was stuck. The doctor said “this is not good Jake” and we ask if we found it early and he replied no. I sat there in tears and he said radiation/chemo treatment doesn’t work on this type of cancer. Surgical intervention is the main treatment option.
Statistics do not look good with this case. But I have never gave a fuck about statistics so why start now.
The impact of a cancer diagnosis goes far beyond the physical disease.
Back into surgery on the 25th. Not excited about the Incisions, but what’s life without scars anyways?
I will have three specialist in the OR. One will go through my nose, the other will make an incision on the side on my nose and the other with make a cut on the side of my neck to check if my lymph nodes are cancerous or not. It will be an all day surgery with a 1-2 day stay. I will also get embolized the day before surgery to prevent some bleeding the day of the surgery. Since the tumor is so big, from the research that has been done, they 100% recommended getting radiation to the area where the tumor was to prevent reoccurrence and make sure all cancerous like cells have been killed.
Please keep my children and family in your prayers. I believe that we have the best medical team and we can beat this! I’m ready to fight!
I will be donating my tumor to Research at the Cleveland clinic for more study. I was Fascinated with the idea of tumor banking which Cleveland clinic made possible to advance further research around this very rare cancer.
The team has been amazing to me and my family. The community has been so supportive and I can’t thank people enough. Thank you to my family. Let’s go!
