Jacob Gattey Medical and Celebration of Life Fund

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of an amazing young man, Jacob Gattey who passed on February 10th, at the age of 17. I am writing this on behalf of my dearest friend Sharon who lost her son Jacob, after a one-month battle to save his life at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland. Unfortunately, that battle was lost and Jacob is now in the arms of his father, Phil in heaven.

The unexpected death of a child is an unimaginable loss that no one can prepare for. Those of you who knew Jacob well, knew he was extremely artistic, loved music, animals, skateboarding, snowboarding, watersports, and hanging with his friends and family. He was the kind of child that brought a ray of sunshine in the room with a hello or hug or just checking in on everyone. His laughter and joking with others was contagious. He could really get you to believe what he was saying until you heard that giggle and knew he got you. He was quite the joker and loved to make people laugh.

No amount of words can express the pain that Sharon, and Jacob’s twin brother, Joseph are feeling through all this. Many of you who loved Jacob and the whole Gattey family have asked how YOU can help during this time. Your prayers, love, and support have meant so very much to them. As you can imagine, the expenses accrued from medical services and life flight have been huge. If you can help ease some of that financial burden so that they can take the time they need to grieve their loss, it would be greatly appreciated.

Jacob’s celebration of life will be held at Eastmont Church, Saturday, March 5th at 12:00PM
