Without treatment, Jackson’s life is likely to be cut short significantly.
With treatment, Jackson’s life will be changed forever.
Jackson Mullett is dealing with serious health issues and finds himself needing financial help. Jackson suffers from an extremely rare, life-threatening immune deficiency known as DOCK-8. This disorder renders his body unable to fight many common ailments and has resulted in chronic and life-threatening infections since infancy. Furthermore, every day he is at severe risk of contracting an infection that could be life threatening. Without life-saving treatment, his symptoms will only continue to worsen until he loses the function of his hands and feet entirely, succumb to infection, or develop one of the numerous cancers connected with this disorder.
For most of his life, this disease has caused numerous, severe ailments, but the cause was a mystery until he was finally diagnosed at the Mayo Clinic in 2018. Recently, a potential cure has become available through the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Washington, D.C. As a part of their research into this disorder, he is eligible to receive a bone marrow transplant covered by NIH research funds - for which we are incredibly grateful.
In recent months, to prepare for the transplant Jackson has been working with the NIH and undergoing tests while living and working in Tokyo. A bone marrow transplant is a major procedure that will render him unable to work for many months during recovery. Financial support is needed to cover current and ongoing medical expenses, travel for his wife to join him from Tokyo and to support lifes expenses during his long recovery when he will be unable to work.
In recent weeks, Jackson’s health has taken a turn for the worse and he is currently hospitalized in Tokyo with Nephrotic Syndrome. He is receiving treatment for his symptoms with the initial goal being to avoid permanent damage to his kidneys and other organs. The plan is to get his kidney problems resolved then transfer him to the National Institute of Health for the bone marrow transplant.
Jackson and new wife, Kirari, have already incurred significant medical expenses over the last few years, and he now is unable to work – likely through the end of the year.
With your support, Jackson can have the chance to live a normal, beautiful life. He dreams of devoting himself to being a husband to his lovely wife Kirari and a father to their future children. Please consider a donation and forward this to anyone you think may be interested in supporting him during this frightening time. No amount is too small, so please help in any way that you can! A Caring Bridge site will be set up soon so you may get updates on Jackson's health journey and he will appreciate any notes you leave him there. We can’t thank you enough for your consideration and for prayers.
