UPDATE: On behalf of the McDonald family, thank you all so much for helping us reach our goal. Its truly heartwarming how much love and support has been given over the last few days. In a time of such darkness, our community has been a source of light and inspiration. The extra funds raised will help ensure that Jack's send off is memorable and proper. Below is a link to his wonderfully written obituary that contains Jackson’s service information for anyone interesting in joining us.
On September 15th, Jack was found unresponsive in his bed. He went into cardiogenic shock which resulted in an anoxic brain injury. He was rushed to the ICU and put on a ventilator to save his life. He was in a comatose state for a few days, but finally opened his eyes. He fought long and hard during breathing trials and they were able to successfully remove the ventilator as he proved he could breathe on his own. The next few weeks were filled with dozens of CT scans, MRIs, EEGs and many other tests to make sure Jackson’s major organs were not severely damaged. After 20 days at Albany Med, he was transferred to Sunnyview Rehabilitation Center where he was treated for his traumatic brain injury. There, he participated in intense rounds of therapy daily to regain physical function, relearn daily tasks, and find a successful way to communicate. After 5 long weeks he was then transferred to a secondary longterm facility that specialized in TBIs. Heartbreakingly on November 15th, Jackson succumbed to his injuries that he fought so hard against. Needless to say this has been an extremely difficult time for his family. Our hearts go out to his mother Tammy McDonald, his brothers Josh Nick and William, and sister Danielle who have already endured so much pain and loss when they lost their father Daniel McDonald to his battle with cancer last year. Donations will be used towards funeral arrangements and medical bills that have accumulated rapidly over the last two months.
