Our sweet boy Jack is 8 years old and such a big part of our family. He’s the kindest little soul and brings so much love into our home, so this has been really hard for us.

Tonight, we’ve been told that Jack needs to have one of his toes amputated tomorrow. The cost for the surgery and testing is £1,594 — something we honestly weren’t expecting or prepared for.

Some time ago, Jack had a vet visit for what seemed to be a pulled nail that caused a wound. He was given anti-inflammatory medication at the time and we thought it had settled. Unfortunately, our insurance company are now classing his current issue as pre-existing because of that earlier visit, so they won’t cover the surgery.

This time, the vets are worried it could be something more serious, possibly a tumour. The wound isn’t healing and isn’t expected to heal on its own. The only way to properly treat it and understand what’s going on is to remove the toe and send it away for testing. As upsetting as that sounds, it will take away the ongoing problem and give him the best chance of being comfortable and well again fast.

We never thought we would be in a position where we’d need to ask for help like this, but the cost has come as a shock. If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, we would be so incredibly grateful. And if donating isn’t possible, sharing this page would mean just as much.
