What is the current situation that requires a GoFundMe:
I have a second surgery in Boston that is part of a medical research study in collaboration with Harvard and MIT. I am testing experimental surgeries to hopefully improve the procedures available for amputees in the future. After policy changes to the funding were implemented recently, the funding for the required stays in Boston has been rescinded. This means I will be in Boston for 7-10 days directly after surgery with surgical drains while having no access to funding. This change was made known to me 3 days before my flight to Boston.
Why I am asking for funds:
The federal funding cuts to Harvard from the current administration is directly impacting me. Between 7-10 days of budget for hotels, food, rental car, flights, medications and therapies has been cut while I am required to be in Boston after my surgery. In addition there is another trip to Boston 4 weeks post op that no longer has any funding as well. These are trips that I will now be paying for out of pocket.
Where is the money going to be spent:
Funds will be used for food, medication, travel expenses, and additional therapies after surgery. It will also go to funding the following trip to Boston for suture removal and an in person follow up to make sure healing is happening correctly.
