This is my brother Jack and his beautiful fiance. They're getting married in the summer and looking forward to a beautiful life together. 

Jack was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in college and was placed on an insulin pump fairly quickly. The pump helped him maintain good control, preserve his blood vessels and organs, and most importantly: helped Jack to feel good. For anyone with any kind of blood sugar problem, you know that out-of-whack blood sugars usually leave you feeling lousy. 

Jack's pump is due for an update. The one he has is almost ten years old, has a couple really large cracks and can stop working at any minute. A new one (after insurance coverage) is the price listed above. Did I mention Jack went to college to devote his life to ministry? He loves his job, but needs more support to obtain this much needed intervention. 


I personally took a job in Diabetes because I found through his experience that the disease is hard to manage, and now as a clinician, I'm simply more convinced of that fact. Let me tell you, a little bit of control goes a looooooonnngggg way. I mean life-altering. An insulin pump acts like a pancreas and calculates insulin needs much better than your average person (or really, better than your exceptional mathematician). Not to mention many insulin pumps have continuous monitors (CGM) that monitor blood sugars ALL DAY LONG. Freaking miraculous technology. Wouldn't you want a machine that alerts you that you need a medical intervention?
