Jackie is a blind Jack Russell x Foxy  rescued from a pound on the NSW border in January this year. She was malnourished, weighing only 4.2kg (she is now a healthy 5.4kg), suffering kennel cough and a tapeworm infestation. I didn't realise Jackie was blind until our 4 hour car journey back to Melbourne that morning. From what I have been able to piece together about her past, I believe she may have been owned by an elderly man that died over a year ago and she has been impounded atleast twice that I know of since he passed away. I don't really know much else.  Jackie urgently needs your help. Melbourne Eye Vet have confirmed she has cataracts in both eyes. Tests on her right eye have determined it will be good for surgery, however the cataract in her left eye has hardened over time. They won't know if it can be operated on until the day of surgery. Otherwise, she has been assessed as a good candidate overall for cataract surgery and has an 80% chance of regaining her sight! Jackie is now very bonded to me, and although she suffers fewer panic attacks these days with the progress we have made together, she still shows signs of severe anxiety if she believes she is alone. We trust that regaining her sight will have a real positive impact on her behavioural issues and give her a better life. Melbourne Eye Vet have quoted $6891 for the surgery on both eyes and we can go ahead as early as next month as we already have Jackie on a range of prescribed eye drops in preparation for this surgery. If we manage to fundraise surplus funds, I plan to  share these funds between Golden Oldies Dog Rescue and Wodonga Dog Rescue, both of these rescue groups supported me immensely with advice on caring for blind Jackie in the early days. I also promise to post regular updates on our progress throughout this journey. I can't wait to share with you the success of her surgery and the transformation of her life.
