Jackie's Battle Against ALS
Donation protected
After Jackie Awanes was diagnosed with ALS, her life turned upside down.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that causes motor neurons from the brain to die and abandon one’s muscles to the point of failure. The person afflicted loses their speech, the use of their arms and legs and eventually lung function.
It is terminal. There is no cure. The average lifespan from diagnosis is two to five years.
After eight months of experiencing muscle weakness, fatigue, and difficulty walking, she was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) in December 2022.
Prior to her diagnosis, Jackie was an active, hardworking, happy individual. She strived (and continues to strive) to be a loving neighbor, sister, and aunt. Jackie was the first person that my family and I turned to in our times of need. Now, she needs our help to secure a better quality of life and care for her everyday living necessities. She's at a point in life where she needs assistance with all aspects of life, some of which include:
- getting off the couch
- preparing her meals
- brushing her hair
- putting her seatbelt on
The list goes on and on.... Up to this point, her caregivers include me and my husband, along with my sister and her husband.
Given this illness, Jackie is unable to work, which leads to difficulties paying for medical expenses/equipment, rent, caregiving needs, and basic necessities. Today, she needs our help and support, which is why we are reaching out to you for donations. All proceeds will go towards Jackie's direct care. Any dollar amount helps.
JACKIE AND OUR FAMILY URGENTLY NEED YOUR SUPPORT. All contributions are appreciated.
