Jackie Makinson-Sanders' Medical Help
Donation protected
Our lovely and loving Jackie needs our help after fracturing her hip from a fall. We are hoping to quickly raise funds for her surgery and after-care. Any little bit can help. Thank you in advance for your good wishes and support.
To add some context...Honduras does have a public health care system but it is broken and COVID has made it worse. Currently, the country has not secured any COVID vaccinations. Patients are languishing in the public hospitals waiting for care all the while COVID patients are coming in. Jackie's daughters, Ana and Alle report their mother would have had to wait in the hospital in very poor conditions for 10 days before any action would be taken to address the hip or the mini-strokes she was suffering prior to the fall. So the right choice was to seek care from the private system which of course costs money.
The next challenge was to get the funds to Honduras. Go Fund Me requires the funds to be deposited in a USA bank. So Roberto Miller, Lucy Makinson-Sanders' son, will receive the funds in an account set up for this purpose, then transfer the funds to Alle who can then pay for medical bills directly. The legal challenges to add Alle to Jackie's existing bank account are time-consuming. We don't have the luxury of time. Alle will set up a special account tomorrow April 3, just for medical bills.
The surgery is set for Tuesday, April 6th. And of course, because of Easter weekend, many things are closed, including banks!
We had a family zoom meeting on April 2. It broke our hearts to see Jackie. She is in pain and physically challenged from the mini-strokes she suffered as well as the fall.
But the bright spot is all the well wishes and money raised so far. Thank you, everyone!! Much love. It takes family and friends to get through life's challenges.
