I would like to thank you for taking the time to read about me. My name is Jack Hemingway Griffin, and I was born and raised in San Jose, California. I’ve attended east side schools all of my life and this year I will be graduating with James Lick High School’s class of 2016.
As far back as I can remember, I had an interest in transportation planning. As a child I would play with model buses and trains, imagining that I was getting everyone to work on time. This interest has stuck with me during my upbringing and has guided me towards my ideal major. I’ve been accepted into San Jose State University under the College of Social Services in the Environmental Studies Department. Unfortunately, I need all the support I can get with paying for my first year of a University. The money raised by this campaign will be used exclusively on investing in my first year of school, which includes tuition, purchasing books, as well as supplies. With your help, I can have a successful first year minus some of the typical stress faced because of growing tuition costs in the California university system.
After finishing my general education studies, my focus will shift to earning a bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, with an emphasis in Transportation Planning. If everything goes as planned, I can continue to pursue my dream job. I hope to work as a transportation planner for the city of San Jose or possibly work for a local transportation agency such as VTA, BART or CalTrain. I am proud to say that San Jose is my home town, and with its growing size and population, I dream of helping to alleviate the city from it’s current traffic nightmare. Giving back to the city that raised me is a very important aspect in what I want to do as a career.
I’d be extremely thankful to anyone who could help me work towards achieving my goal. I’ve challenged myself for years to maintain good grades in school, and I am proud to say that I am the first member of my family to be accepted into a four-year university right out of high school. With your help, I plan on continuing my hard work into my college career. Donating to my college fund is not only an investment in me, but an investment in the future of better transportation in the Bay Area.
