Hi everyone, my name is Maggie, I'm sure if you know me you also know, in some regard, my dog Jack. I adopted Jack back in early 2017 and he's been a key part of my life ever since. Going through health struggles, life changes, and even college with me. He's remained a steadfast companion and light in the dark. Jack is an amazing dog, he's determined, silly, incredibly sweet, and has brought joy to so many people.
For several months now, Jack has been experiencing worsening issues with his health. Since May he's been hospitalized twice, seen three different specialists, had many diagnostics performed, and been placed on numerous medications that we're still trying to find a balance with. In June it was discovered that Jack has a nodule on his adrenal gland. Based on his clinical signs and certain diagnostics, his medical team feels fairly confident that this is what is called a pheochromocytoma, a type of endocrine tumor. And because this nodule invades into the local vasculature, we do believe it to be malignant.
Outside of simply trying to keep Jack comfortable and manage his symptoms, the treatment options of choice for this type of tumor are surgery or radiation.
Right now the goal is to pursue radiation. During the week of September 7th Jack was taken for a consultation with a radiation oncologist, and at this appointment estimates and possible Stereotactic Radiation Therapy treatment plans were provided.
Unfortunately, with such specialized treatment and care the costs are high. With the diagnostics needed and treatment involved, pursuing radiation would come out to at least $10,000 if not more. About 20% of these costs go towards a CT scan that is needed for the oncologist to determine where to target the radiation, and the other 80% is what is needed for the radiation itself as well as the anesthesia needed for Jack to undergo it.
On my own, pursuing radiation for Jack will not be financially possible, which is why I'm creating this gofundme. I am certainly not the only person right now facing the financial hardships of the world, and I know this is a significant amount to ask for. At this time, even if radiation doesn't become reachable, small donations would still make a considerable difference towards Jack's long term needs and management. I would greatly appreciate any help you could provide, no matter how small.
I would never want anyone to put themselves at financial risk for this or give money that they need, so while I am asking for help, I also ask that you take care of yourselves first. And regardless of if you are in a place to donate or not, I want to thank you for your care and concern for Jack.
I would also like to be fully transparent that I would be submitting any bills to Jack's insurance, so there is a chance they would partially reimburse some of these costs. Unfortunately, Jack does have some preexisting conditions, so there is a very real possibility that his insurance will deny these claims. In the event his insurance is willing to reimburse some of these costs, any money from here that remains would only be used for Jack's ongoing care or donated to help other animals in need. However, if you would like your donation sent back to you in the the event his insurance offers some reimbursement, please reach out to me.
I didn't include all the specific details of the costs here, but if you would like to see the estimates I've been provided by the oncologist please let me know, I'd be happy to show you. And if you have any questions for me please don't hesitate to reach out.
Thank you so much!
