Jack MacRobert
Bring Jack Back
We are posting this introduction on behalf of our friend Jack (John) MacRobert, who has fallen on hard times recently and is unable to do this himself. For those of you who know Jack what we’re about to say will seem redundant, but for those of you who don’t, please read on.
Jack turned 90 this past May and has been involved in ice hockey at every level. To this day, you’ll still run into him pitching in at a Big Bear Tournament, sharing hockey stories with the kids and parents, but he has also been a player, coach, referee, referee instructor, public speaker, and an off-ice official for the NHL, retiring last season after 47 seasons.
Around July 4th Jack was walking to his car and tripped and broke his right femur, which was part of a hip replacement from a few years back. After an evaluation, his doctors decided to place him in a rehab facility to
see if the fracture would solidify and possibly avoid another surgery.
After 4 weeks, x-rays have shown bone growth and he’s on his way to recovering. Recently he was moved to another facility for additional rehab, but this is beyond his means, and the medical bills are beginning to pile up.
Just over a year ago Jack’s granddaughter blessed him with twin great
grandchildren, Lennon and Henry, and they greet him with excitement when visiting, referring to him as “GG-Pop”. Recently he shared his dream with me of being able to see the twins skate in a hockey tournament.
We’re calling on his many friends and everyone in the greater hockey family to pitch in whatever you’re able and help Jack realize this dream. It’ll be a few more seasons before the boys are old enough to play, but Jack is firmly committed to the goal. He’s working hard in rehab. If they give him 10 exercise reps, he does 20. Jack has the will, but he needs help with the way. Let’s BRING JACK BACK!
