Jack Griffin was involved in an accident trying to light a small fire pit early Sunday morning on the 26th of April.
He sustained significant major burns to 65% of his body, including his face and airway.
He’s in a critical condition and will be in a coma for potentially 4 weeks while he fights through this. He’s in the best place he can be at the Alfred burns ICU in Melbourne.
Right now, it’s about getting through each day, one step at a time. And if anyone has the strength to face something like this, it’s Jack.
Due to the extent of his injuries, there isn’t enough unburnt skin available for traditional grafting. In a remarkable turn, Jack has been accepted into a groundbreaking medical trial where doctors will grow his own skin in a lab over the next 4–6 weeks. There are only ten places available in this trial across this hospital and two in Switzerland and Jack is the final patient to be accepted. It’s an extraordinary opportunity, and one that gives hope in an otherwise overwhelming time.
He’s had a few major surgeries already however there are many more to come in the following months. Jack has got an incredibly long road of recovery ahead of him. He is so lucky to have Molly, his fiancé, by his side every step of the way.
Jack is always full of life — the kind of person who brings energy and warmth wherever he goes. He loves his friends deeply, and you’ll often find him passionately supporting the Brisbane Lions and the Parramatta Eels.
In his spare time, Jack loves to run and regularly competes in races, always pushing himself to be better. He also plays footy for the Clayton Football Club, a community he loves to be involved in and supports at any opportunity he can.
Molly and Jack and inevitably both going to be off from work for a very long time. Therefore we want to raise as many funds as possible to reduce that burden and help with bills, groceries and the longterm medial care Jack will need.
Molly is a paramedic here in Melbourne. She spends her life caring for others in their most critical moments, always giving everything she can. Now, it’s our turn to stand beside her and support her when she needs it most.
This will be a long and difficult year, but Jack is surrounded by an incredible community who love him deeply. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference and is truly appreciated. All funds raised will go directly to Molly to support both her and Jack through the months ahead.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.
