Jack Gives Back - Parents Against Cancer

Tax deductible
I am Jack Hagemeister and I am fighting leukemia.

My story started on May 2nd, 2019 when I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia.  I had been having fevers, joint pains, headaches, and fatigue for weeks before and leukemia was the cause.  I thought the world was ending and knew for certain that the road ahead of me was going to be infinitely more difficult.

After many months of agonizing treatment and lost time, I'm in maintenance and recovering on schedule. Those treatment days were by far the hardest in my life. But, I was lucky.  I'm blessed with loving friends, family, and a community by my side.  In addition, my family has access to good medical insurance, flexible job schedules, a good children’s hospital nearby, a safe place to live, and many other blessings.

However, not everyone is blessed like me. During my stays in the hospital, children younger than me were alone in hospital beds getting chemo deep into the night.  Their families had to work for the basic necessities for their recovering children and as a result couldn't be there to help them when they needed it most. I could never imagine my treatment without the support of my community and the resources that it provided me, but this happens every day.

In order to help these kids with cancer, I wanted to set up an in-person fundraiser for Parents Against Cancer (PAC).  It is a nonprofit organization that helps the parents of cancer kids pay for food, rides, childcare, and other things necessary for them to feel secure during treatment.  However, due to COVID-19 that simply isn’t possible right now, but I plan on having one in the future.

That's why I decided to set up this online fundraiser for PAC instead.  By donating you'll help make life easier for the kids and families who are going through cancer treatment.  Any amount can make a real difference and 100% of the money received by PAC goes to the families in need.  Please help me accomplish my goal of helping cancer families in need.

A little bit about Parents Against Cancer:
(PAC) is a local non-profit organization affiliated with Jonathan Jaques Children's Cancer Institute at Miller Children's Hospital, Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, Long Beach, California.

For over 40 years, PAC has been dedicated to children with cancer and serious blood disorders, and their families, being treated at Miller Children's Hospital.  They have raised emergency funds to pay for food, rent, transportation, medical supplies, wigs, utilities, and, in worst case scenarios, funeral expenses.  They step in with emergency and on-going assistance, when no other options are available.

The PAC Board is made up of parents and hospital staff, all of whom are volunteers.  Board members are people just like you who want to give a little of themselves in order to help others.  No one on the board is paid/compensated, to ensure that all funds go directly to the families in need.
