Assist in Jack’s Recovery
Donation protected
On Saturday, October 31, at the age of 15, Jack Arp, son of Karen Rosler and youngest member of the Schemel family, suffered a horrific accident which severed his windpipe. He was rushed to the hospital, received emergency surgery and was placed on a ventilator. He then received multiple surgeries over the course of a week and a half. Things were looking up but unfortunately the wind pipe and vocal chords were too severely damaged and he would need more time to heal before he could breathe on his own. Jack received a tracheotomy and several additional surgeries over the next couple of days. While visitors have not been allowed (due to Covid) Karen has stayed by Jack’s side day and night, sleeping next to him while wearing mask. On Wednesday, November 11, the entire Schemel family, some visiting from as far as Wyoming, gathered at the hospital with signs to stand outside his window to greet him. He waved happily to his family and seemed to be in good spirits. Today, things are beginning to look up but there is a long road to recovery before them. The tracheotomy will likely need to remain in place for months. Jack will also need several therapies including speech therapy at a facility over an hour and a half away from home. If you ever known a member of the Schemel family and the kindness and generosity they have shown to everyone who has crossed their paths, you know that they are deserving of all of our prayers and any assistance we might have to offer. Please help however you can. Every little bit will help to ease the burden of the long road before them and now is the time to show them what their friendship has meant to you. Thank you for whatever you might be able to do.
