Jaci Vargas' Medical Fundraiser
Donation protected
On the morning of December 24th, 2022, Jaci suddenly began vomiting blood and fainting. Her husband, Mike, rushed her to the ER. She was admitted to the hospital, where she continued to vomit blood. A CT scan and an upper GI endoscopy were performed, which showed a bleeding mass in her stomach. In an attempt to stop the hemorrhage, the bleed was clipped endoscopically. Jaci continued to bleed however, and required a total of 9 blood transfusions throughout her week-long hospital stay. When she was more hemodynamically stable, a second upper GI endoscopy was done, which was finally successful at stopping the bleeding.
Jaci was eventually stable enough to be discharged, and a third upper GI endoscopy was done as an outpatient to find out exactly what the mass was. It was determined to be a congenital ectopic pancreas (essentially while developing, some pancreatic cells migrated and developed in her stomach). While this itself is benign, it was recommended to be surgically removed as it could cause another massive, life-threatening hemorrhage at any time.
On January 20th, 2023, Jaci had surgery to remove the portion of her stomach with the mass, and is currently on the road to recovery.
Unfortunately, while insurance covered some of the expenses, this ordeal has left Jaci and Mike with substantial medical debt. Additionally, Jaci’s PTO has been exhausted and the work she is missing for surgery and recovery is without pay.
Any amount donated, no matter how big or small, would be immensely helpful and greatly appreciated!
