On April 29, 2021 at 2:04 AM, our son Jacek Jason Knapczyk was born. After a 27-hour labor, an emergency C-section was performed at Advocate Lutheran Hospital. Jacek weighed 4 lbs. 8.8 oz and was 18 inches long. This beautiful angel had other plans, he only graced us (Michael and Bryanna Knapczyk) for 45 minutes. Unfortunately, he didn’t survive the multiple airway interventions and resuscitative efforts made by the NICU team. As his mother, it was a blessing feeling his spirit throughout the 34 weeks and 6 days despite developing severe polyhydramnios.
Jacek was a strong fighter. He fought multiple challenges with his premature birth including a marginally inserted two vessel cord and a structural issue. While in utero, the high risk fetal maternal group identified the structural issue to either be a tracheal esophageal fistula (TEF) or a cystic mediastinal mass. His plan of care was to have surgery 24 to 48 hours after birth to correct the problem.
Our pregnancy adventure has not been an easy journey. After facing 3 ectopic pregnancies, 3 surgeries, 2 amnio reductions, 1 miscarriage, and this profound loss in the last 5 years, it’s was a miracle to have conceived Jacek through IVF. We know the road to healing and grieving will be profound and are grateful for any support, prayers, and contributions for our family.
We wanted to share our story and would appreciate your donations to help our family with medical and funeral costs. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for showering our son and families with love throughout this difficult time. Memorial services will be announced shortly.
