Jaafar from Sudan needs urgent heart surgery

This is our dear Uncle Jaafar, a very close friend of our family who unfortunately got diagnosed with Ischemic heart disease in May 2024. Jaafar now needs to go through a major heart surgery which will cost him 6.500.000 Sudanese pounds, a sum that is impossible for him to raise on his own.

Jaafar was born and raised in Khartoum and has lived there until he had to flee his home in June 2023 due to the outbreak of the war. He and his wife fled to Gadaref where his wife’s family lives. On May 8th 2024 he was brought to a hospital since he was suffering from severe chest pain and other symptoms. He then got diagnosed with Ischemic or Coronary heart disease. On May 26th he was taken to a hospital in Merowe by an ambulance. Usually he would be supposed to get treated in Khartoum but due to the war the health care system in Khartoum has completely collapsed. In Merowe he was told that he needed to undergo surgery as soon as possible.

Jaafar knew he wouldn’t be able to afford it and had already given up hope. When we found out about his situation we decided to help and collect money for him.

Jaafar has helped our family and many others when they had to flee Eritrea in the 1970s. He used to receive letters for all the Eritrean refugees and help in every way he could. Now, 50 years later, he has become a refugee himself and it‘s our turn to be there for him.

The money from the donations will be used to cover all medical costs and travel expenses for Jaafar.
