****UPDATE****
WOW! We are blown away by the support from all of her family and friends and many others simply because of the cause, thank you all! Bec is beside herself with the love and support and can't thank you all enough.
Any additional funds donated now will go towards her rehabilitation and out of work costs, so thank you again for continuing to donate.
Surgery is now booked in for September!
Much beloved staff member and all round legend Rebecca Burke has been quietly battling some health issues in recent years.
As a result of many life-saving surgeries for her ongoing melanoma battle, Bec needs an operation to address some resulting medical issues and improve her quality of life. The surgery involves reconstruction of her jaw, which currently causes incredible pain as the bone has deteriorated to the point it needs to be replaced entirely by an artificial one. The surgery is considered elective, despite it being a necessary procedure as a result of previously covered surgeries, and it is not cheap. There are only two surgeons in NSW who can perform the operation, hence the cost involved.
As many of you know, Bec is someone who would never ask for help, and was entirely against the thought of others offering a hand to her, despite her helping so many over her years at the College, and wider community. But, those close to her who have seen the battles she has had recently thought we needed to step in and do everything we could to re-pay the favours she has done for hundreds, if not thousands of students and staff, friends and family. She deserves a break, and we want to give it to her.
All funds will go directly to the cost of the surgery, anaesthetist and follow up physio appointments, and we will provide any updates when necessary. If you would like to remain anonymous you are able to do so. Comments are also welcome on the GoFundMe page but we would please ask not to contact Bec directly. we would like to surprise her and remove a great weight off her shoulders.
Many thanks,
Her St Greg's Family.
