Love for Carolyn

Anyone who knows Carolyn Miles knows she is an exceptional mother, friend, and human being. She is a person who gives her all to improve the lives of others and spreads joy and compassion wherever she goes. In September 2020, Carolyn received a crushing diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Upon receiving this news she quickly rallied with her characteristic tenacity and began fighting the illness. In early December, about a week before a scheduled pancreatic surgery she learned her cancer metastasized to her liver and doctors informed her it developed to stage IV. This is clearly a devastating blow, especially because she is no longer eligible for the surgery. 

Despite all these obstacles, Carolyn is determined to spend as much time as she can with Miles (age 10), her other loved ones, and to pursue hope. She is receiving regular chemotherapy treatments and pursuing clinical trials for future participation should this need arise. As you can imagine Carolyn's care is expensive and for the first time in decades, she is unable to work. Her small, local non-profit had to eliminate positions on September 1, including Carolyn's, so finances are very tight. Despite her reluctance to ask for financial help, her friends convinced her to set up this fund. The money collected will help her with out-of-pocket treatment costs, travel to out-of-state clinical trials, complementary naturopath supplements and treatments, and enable her some additional flexibility for the many unanticipated expenses she faces. 

Carolyn is so grateful for the enormous support her friends and family have shown, and while she will never ask,financial assistance is one of many ways to hold her hand through this difficult time and to help ease some of her stress.
